This episode continues with a similar subject matter, “Vaccines”. In the wake of vaccine mandates, religious and personal objections are on the rise. What do certain religions believe about vaccination. I summarized several resources which provide a good overview of several religious stances on vaccines.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center has a website that breaks down this topic by religion.
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public health has additional information.
The Christian Medical and Dental Association provides additional background on the topic of vaccine contents and aborted fetal tissue.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue!

Hello and welcome back to curb side ethic, I’m, Dr Steven Bradley an anesthesiologist and medical ethicist. The point of this podcast is to provide resources for phenicians that we can provide better ethical and equitable decisions for the health of our patients in previous episodes. I’ve talked extensively about the ethics behind the Cobi nineteen vaccines and some of the vaccine, Nandas that are coming out a talk last week about military vaccine mandates and how they compared to the anthrax vaccine mandate. Ironically, one of my coworkers was vaccinated or received the Intra vaccine today, because they are preparing to deploy overseas, so definitely still relevant, at least to the folks. In the service. This week I am going to talk about some religious exemptions and how religion impacts, whether or not you choose to receive vaccinations. A couple of resources that this information came from. When I received from a colleague on twitter and it comes from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, they have a pretty good summary on emanistic and religion. Also, the Dons Hawkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has some information relevant to different religious groups and their stand on vaccination. We’ll jump right- and this is from Beneva University medical centers website, and this post talks about IMMANITATI ONS in religion. Most religions have no prohibition against vaccinations. However, some religions do have some considerations, concerns or restrictions regarding vaccination in general, whether that’s reasons for vaccination or specifically, what the vaccines contain or potentially contain they list on their website, several religious organizations or religious faith and some of their stances on vaccinations. They start off with Buddhism and according to this resource, Buddhism has no central authority that determines doctrine. Vaccination is widely accepted in predominantly Buddhist countries when it comes to Christianity. The Christian faith has multiple different nominations, which may differ in their theological approach to vaccines, so the sex of Roman Catholicism Amish Baptist Piscopalian. A lot of these denominations do not typically object to vaccinations, even among the Jehovah’s Witness, although initially they denounced fascination by back one thousand nine hundred n fifty two. They revised this doctrine and recently had an article in the Church’s newsletter that promotes vaccination to avoid infectious disease and I’ll place a link to these resources in the show notes. There are certain denominations within the room of Christianity that do theologically objective vaccination. They mentioned the Dutch reformed kind of creations. This denomination is a tradition of declining emanistic. Some members decline vaccination based on the fact that it may interfere with divine providence. However, other members of this faith may actually accept amanition as a kip from God to be used with gratitude. Some denominations, it believe in faith healing, may not readily accept the vaccination when it comes to Hinduism Hinduism has no prohibition against vaccines. Although Hindus, typically venerate cows, trace bovine components of certain vaccines have not been identified as a theological concern when it comes to Islam, there is no universal prohibition to vaccination. There have been several gatherings of Muslim leaders and scholars to address the theological implication of ingredients in food and drugs, including vaccinations the Organization of Islamic Conference in the Fifteenth Annual Conference of the International Fik Council. They both concluded that vaccination is acceptable under Islam. The Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences concluded that porcine or pork gelatine using vaccine is acceptable. Some experts in Islamic law hold that emanistic is of Liga Tory when the disease risk is high and the vaccine is benefits that far out WAAS risk in Judaism. There is support for vaccination as an action to maintain health and also has a parental responsibility to protect children against future infections. Some vaccines contain porcine or pork derived gelatine. However, many Jewish scholars agree that porcine gelatine in an injectable form is acceptable, mostly it’s not really being ingested as being injected, and that does make a difference in the opinions of many scholars when it comes to scientology. There is an interview out with a Reverend John Carmichael of the Church of Scientology, in which he states that there are no precepts or strictures about vaccinations within scientology. The Institute for Vaccine Safety Out of the Johns Hawkins blimbers fool of Public Health has additional information on vaccinations, which I found pretty interesting when it comes to religion and vaccines specifically delving into the porcine derived components of vaccinations. Some vaccines contain pork products essentially, and many religions opposes support product and they may object these vaccinations on their website which I’ll, including show notes. They have additional information for these different religious organizations when it comes to those of the Muslim faith they have on the website quoted the gelatine formed as a result of the transformation of the bones skin and tendance of a judicially impure animal is pure and it is judicially permissible to eat it. That was from one thousand nine hundred and ninety five decision by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences when it comes to those I practice: Judaism, drugs of porcine origin, Art Ari from a pancreas which, as extracted, is not edible in the food since so they wouldn’t be able to eat it excipient or non active ingredients in vaccine. If it’s a gelatine and there’s no alternative available, consumption of gelatine is permitted because it is being consumed in in noned form when it comes to other issues that come up with vaccines. This John’s Hockins website was on to talk about that of upbore fetuses and a lot of people in the Catholic and Christian faith, object to abortion and are concerned that a boarded fees material is being used in vaccinations on the C Ma website. That’s the Christian medical and dental associations website they have additional information on this matter is tissue from a boarded petus is used in making vaccines so part their website. There are two human embryonic stale lines that were originally obtained from two PESE: a boarded in H S WI thirty, eight and Mr C. Five. These were used to grow certain virus trains used in some vaccines in their paper vaccines, whose productions is associated with embryonic cell cultures. Experts from the Christian medical and Dental Association reported that they were not aware of any vaccine whose production required cell cultures from ongoing abortions. So the only abortions in question happened over forty years ago and none since are known to have gone into vaccine manufacturing. This same paper goes on to name specific vaccines made using these cell lines that came from a board at Petis in th s. These include some vaccines for bare cell and chicken pox, which is Barabas the Rubila German measles vaccine hepatitis, a habitas N, b combination and rabies, vaccines, alternative vaccines for Mumps, measles, Rubella and rabies are available which do not use abortion derived beetle or IMBRIANI. Sales Vaccines Produce Without abortion derived human cell cultures include those for anthrax, O Theria, the dept vaccine, Himatlal B and Fluenza list goes on and on from the Vatican the author, a summary of their study, it was entitled More Reflections on Vaccines. Repaired from stem sells, derived from a boarded human thetis is, and it comes to a similar finding. Their detailed ethical and moral reasoning emphasizes the importance of calling on the pharmaceutical industry to find ethical alternatives to abortion source tissue. However, they also note the burden of this important battle cannot and must not fall on innocent children on the health situation of the population, especially with regard to pregnant women. The pregancy reference concerns a very high risk of Cadino Rubella Syndrome and pregnant women exposed to Robella the Vatican declares there is a grave responsibility to use alternative vaccines. It also stays, however, as regards the vaccine with out and alternative parents are morally justified in using these vaccines for the good of one’s children and othe people who come and contact their children. The academy reminded all that this should not be misinterpreted as a decoration of the lawfulness of these vaccines, production and marketing from the Christian medical and Dental Association, they issued a statement. Title is vaccination, complicit with abortion and a Dr Jean rudd of t, a C MTA address the issue further. He reminds us that medical science made use of information glean from Nazi experimentation on humans, despite its evil origin. His point is that at some level, redemption is considered while never condoning evil acts, so that could be result. The Judeo Christian tradition teaches of a loving God who seeks to make good out of evil. The linked participation in the good does not endorse the evil. Neither does one need to reject the benefits of vaccination, which is good solely because of its past lingas with abortion. Dr Rod concludes that are concerned about the use of sell culters linked to abortion should motivate the pharmaceutical industry to fine morally acceptable alternatives. The author looks at this situation with another example. Suppose a child needs an organ transplant, a matching organise bound, and it is the only available and timely option for this child. It is in learned that the organ donor was a murder victim is accepting the organ the same as approving of the murder, no as if yet, we similarly have no alternatives to certain vaccines produced in part with tissue to Ri from two prebo children to Bordier half a century ago, however, we can prayerfully petition the manufacturers and marketers to find ethical and life honoring alternatives as wifly as possible. I really enjoyed kind of taking this deep dive into different organizations, different religious organizations and their opinions and stances on vaccination. I think these are going to come up more and more often as people begin to make and take objections to receiving this cove in Tine vaccine, especially once it’s mandated by their employers. I think another way of looking at things is just because your employer may or may not man at a vaccine. Your employer may contract and work with other organizations that may require vaccination. Over the weekend. I saw some reports from a young lady who was in nursing school and her nursing school was man dating the vaccine and she was claiming a religious o exemption and that’s all well and good. However, these nursing schools are contracted with clinical sides, which are independent hospitals. Most often in these different hospitals may have rules that all staff of students need to be vaccinated. So just because your school may provide for religious exemption, then you can go to class and not receive this. Vaccination doesn’t give them the right or the standing to allow you to enter into someone else’s facilities unvaccinated. So these issues are going to continue to come up exercising our rights responsibilities, privileges end when they infringe upon the rights of others. Thank you so much for listening in it. This week’s episode of ethically sourced what are your thoughts on vaccine mandates on religious exemptions? How high should the standard be for determining religious and personal objections to receiving these cove nineteen vaccines?
